Welcome to the MedTripInfo discussion forum on medical malpractice and liability. One reason that's often cited to explain why health care is less expensive overseas than in the US is the difference in approach toward medical malpractice. In the US, high liability insurance premiums and defensive medicine drive up costs. In other countries, it's not true, at least not to the same extent. I'm not sure I actually buy the argument, so I'll be interested in others' opinions. In this forum I hope to see a discussion of policy issues and practical questions, such as what recourse a patient has overseas if something goes awry.
