Excellent account of your experience. I'm wondering whether you think it's likely that San Diego dentists are feeling the competition from Mexico. On the one hand they are so close physically, on the other hand it still sounds like it's two different worlds.
Have you had the chance to speak with any US dentists about your experience? What do you think they'd say?
I haven't spoken to any San Diego dentists about their feelings regarding Tijuana dentists, but I can imagine what they would be. They would probably use scare tactics to persuade people that they shouldn't go down there.

San Diego Dentists

Dental competition
In my experience dentists are some of the most commercial health care providers --partly because so much of what they do is self-pay and/or elective.
It will be interesting to see how the competition plays out and what kinds of cooperative models emerge.
